If I was a Mom in my Hometown...

IF I WAS A MOM IN MY HOMETOWN...

labels identified layered mom in hometownIf i was a mom in my hometown

I'd wear this layered uniform...

to my son's football games (with his picture pinned prominantely to the side of the lapel).

to my daughter's cheerleading competitions (you call that a Hurkey?!).

to the parent-teacher conferences (I just don't think that the environment you're providing my angels is conducive to their learning abilities).

to drinks with the girls (Michelob Ultra with lime, please).

to the park on Sunday after church(8 a.m. service time!).

to Walmart (30 miles away).

to make dinner for my family (1 meat, 1 starch, 2 veggies).

to tuck them into bed and night, and discuss the coming week with The Husband.

to do all those important things a Mom is supposed to do.

Hmm. It doesn't really seem that bad, does it?

Knee High Socks, Jersey Dress, and Oxfords = Fantastic

knee

I'm channeling my inner-Cher (no, the other Cher...the one who made us all have a crush on Alicia Silverstone's wardrobe in the nineties...and still remains for me to this day) today with my knee-high socks, and thinking about those knee-high riding boots I couldn't find this weekend at DSW.

There's something quite charming about pairing knee-high socks and oxfords together, don't you think?

Well - I do.

Quick:  What's this movie quote from?
"It might be time for a complete makeover - but this time I'd make over my soul."

Come on, I practically (as in, I did) gave it to you!!

Playing dress up with flats

labels identified dressing up flats

Today’s challenge question…

Can flats look as dressy as heels?

First, I debated whether my outfit was too sexy for work – a tight skirt and a shirt?
Briefly I thought…who cares?...and then I realized, Oh – maybe my boss.

But I tucked my shirt in anyway, belted it with some color, and then came to my senses and decided to trade in my heels for flats.

Sigh.

The problem is that I have this constant proportion rule in my head that tells me if I wear a tight pencil-type skirt, I need to wear some type of heel with it.

However, I’m six feet tall, and sometimes, every once in a while, I don’t like to be taller than everyone else in my office (except for the guy who is 6’8”, but honestly, who is taller than that guy? And really, it I was, I’d probably be cashing in on some basketball or volleyball team and have at least one Olympic gold medal hanging on the corkboard in my bedroom [see, I AM a winner!], and I’d tell you all that the weather is JUST FINE up here in Championland, thanks for asking.)

Anyway, I decided to keep the flats.
I don’t love it, but I guess it works.

How the French stay French, and I stay...me

So, I live in a pretty small city that seems to reject franchised and new businesses no matter how good the economy proves to be.  As a result of that, I don't have a La Madeleine within four hours of my house.

What I discovered that I do have, whilst trolling the aisles of my local supermarket, is La Madeleine's Tomato Basil soup, jarred specifically for me and delivered to my store!

Well, someone like me, at least.

And let me tell you, it is just as amazing as in the actual bistro, and I felt so...French...eating my tomato basil soup and salad with Olive Garden salad dressing (you know, if the French had a penchant for canned franchised foods [some of which pretend to be Italian] and sat in their offices drinking iced tea and updating their blogs while they ate their processed food out of a styrofoam plate and coffee mug).

At least I looked good doing it?

Double post Monday...
Unless you are a Missouri fan, you might not have watched the game this weekend.
But I did, live and in person, and watched Tech upset the Tigers.

Flower Power

charlies angel jeans

I always feel Charlie's Angel like in the pants.  I suspect its the high waist...or the handgun I'm carrying in my pocket.

I'm kidding.  I'm just happy to see you all.

I spent a little time catching up on some blogs last night.  And then I fell asleep on the couch, laptop sliding lazily to the ground.

I'm really glad I woke up before my husband (who was asleep on the other couch) and shut it down.  It's not like I broke it or anything, sheesh.

As a side note, aren't you totally jealous of our Thursday night?

I've never owned spurs

I live in West Texas.

I don’t ride a horse to work.

I do own cowboy boots.

I wear them occasionally.

I’ve been to a few rodeos, but I’ve never actually participated in one. (I did meet George Strait at a rodeo in my hometown.)

I don’t own a cowboy hat these days.

If I did, I wouldn’t wear it to work.

But I will wear my boots to the office.

Because of course I work in oil and gas.

I told you I live in West Texas, right?

Lace and Hummus

I've never not liked hummus.  But I've never loved it either.

I love it today.

I've declared it my new favorite dip.

My status on Facebook currently says: "Roasted Garlic Hummus is my new favorite dip."

You know it must be a serious affair if I've gone public with it.

"That's some nice jewelry you got down there," she said needlessly.

Speaking of going public, I'm very happy to be wearing my lacey-backed Charlotte Russe cardigan again today.  It doesn't get much more comfortable than this (but it could be warmer in this office).

Speaking of being warmer, I broke out the heel / sock combination again.

Speaking of speaking, there's a lot of that going around on this post today.

P.S.  I'm sorry that my socks are so linty.  I almost didn't post this picture because I was a little embarassed...but the shoes are so dang cute!

Getting Back on Track

I'm so busy these days that I feel like I never get to spend anytime on this blog or other's blogs.  I'm determined to get back on track, however!

Today's photos:

I was feeling a little scarf action this morning!!!  Man, these pants are big on me.  I think its time to invest in some new black pants...sigh.

And yesterday's!

Just a nice, comfortable, safe outfit for Monday morning!

Halloween Highlights!

Went to two Halloween parties this weekend!  I dressed as Sookie Stackhouse from True Blood both nights!  It was funny to see people's reactions - they are either a fan of the show, or have never seen it before and had no idea who I was!!
