Red Lipstick

Mary Kay came out with a lipstick called Really Red.  It's supposed to conform to your color and be "the only red you'll ever need".  Since I struggle to find a red lipstick that looks good on me, I decided to give it a try.

I'm impressed.  It really does seem like the perfect shade of red for me!  Now if I could only figure out how to stay "in the lines" and not make my lips squared off at the sides.

That is a lesson for another day.

Half day Friday at the office which will end in Sangria for lunch.  I planned my whole week around Sangria.  That is my life now.  Kat's at daycare; Mommy's at lunch with a glass of Sangria.  Sigh.

The Many Wears of a Denim Shirt

Do you own a denim button up shirt?  Mine is one of the most versatile things in my closet.

I can wear it casually: tucked into a pair of khaki or white shorts with a preppy belt and Sperry's, knotted at the waist with capris, or haphazardly thrown on with an easy skirt (wrinkles required, of course).

I can also dress it up:  belted with a pair of khaki or black pants, knotted over a maxi dress, or like I did today - tucked into a pencil skirt with heels.

Let's not forget that easy combo of denim on denim, too.

Put on a denim shirt, and you can move mountains.
(You cannot actually move mountains.)

Who Am I?

Life as a new parent is a strange one - I'm still struggling to identify myself as Mom, Wife, and Me.

We moved into a new house, we had a baby...lots of changes have happened in the past few months.

One thing that has gone back to normal - I can wear all my old clothes.  Talk about "shopping your closet" -- I have access to clothes that I didn't get to wear for months last year!!

Life.  Life is pretty good.  Especially with this little one hanging around:

I bought this shirt when I was pregnant - it's not a maternity shirt but it is a size XXL.  I remember I wore it to Thanksgiving last year with some leggings - lots of room for turkey and dressing and pretty fall colors.

It actually fits better now that I'm not pregnant.  Don't really know what that says about me, but I'm not going to think about it too much.

Is everyone off work tomorrow for the 4th?  I was originally disappointed that the holiday was in the middle of the week, but now that I've come to terms with the fact that with this new baby I probably WAS NOT going to the lake anyway, it's kind of nice to have a mid-week break!  We've had company for the past two weekends (and my parents are coming this following weekend) so it will be nice to get some cleaning done Wednesday (rather than wait and frantically try to get it done before they show up Friday night).

Plus, I get to spend some time with Kat tomorrow.  :)

Back in the Saddle Again

This shirt was $11.  It was a good investment.
(On the scale of clothing, what ISN'T a good investment for $11?  How about the tiny stomach-revealing knit halter top I bought from Goodwill in 2002 for a 70s Roller Skating Mixer?  Haven't had much use for THAT piece of $11 clothing again...)

I know you can't tell, but this skirt is actually navy blue with white pencil stripes.  When I was a child, I used to dream about the woman I'd be when I wore pencil stripes.  I imagined myself in a loft in New York or California (interchangeable in my childhood daydreams as "Places I Have Never Been To") with a much cooler job than I could ever qualify for in real life.  I also looked a lot like Christy Wills from The Secret of My Success in those daydreams, all big glasses and fluffy hair.  So you didn't always know what you were talking about, Brittany From 1990.

My Year In Pictures

So sorry I disappeared!  If there are any readers still out there...its been an interesting year since I've been gone!

It started with a little of this...

Which turned into a LOT of that:

And eventually became another little thing:

Who we brought home on a very cold day:

And who made me feel happy and tired and ecstatic and energetic all the time:

But a lot of the time, we just did this:

And there was plenty of this:

But that usually led to this:

But then things picked up a bit.

And she became my daughter, a person, and we got to get out of the house and go shopping and take awesome baths and just enjoy it:

(There was still plenty of this though):

And I went back to work during the week, and she went off to "school", and the weekends became cherished.  And now, four and a half months later, or really a year later to you Dear Readers...

Kat and I have are finally getting this routine down.  And maybe Mommy can start her blog again, and not feel too tired to get dressed in the morning, much less show it off on the Internet.  Thanks to those of you who stuck around when I left with no explanation.  I can't wait to see what you've been up to for the past year :)
